The Health Ministry said the cumulative provisional toll of Israeli attacks in Lebanon, from March 2 to April 16 at midnight, stands at 2,294 killed and 7,544 injured, on the first day of a cease-fire expected to last about 10 days.
Among the victims are 100 rescue workers and health care workers killed, as well as 233 injured, the daily statement published Friday evening said.
The Ministry added that the final death toll from the attacks will be published after operations to clear debris, recover remains, conduct DNA tests, and identify the victims are completed.
The war began when Hezbollah opened a front on March 2 in support of Iran, which was targeted by a U.S.-Israeli attack during which Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed. Since then, fighting has raged in southern Lebanon: The Israeli army is advancing into Lebanese territory and razing entire villages, while its airstrikes target several regions, spreading death and destruction.
