SOUTH LEBANON — Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa killed at least 2,089 people, including 166 children, since the war began on March 2, as attacks on health infrastructure and its personnel mounted. Israeli attacks this Monday have killed at least 10 people, according to a provisional toll from our regional correspondents.

The first direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon aimed at reaching a cease-fire are set to begin Tuesday at 6 p.m., with Beirut being notably spared from Israeli strikes since last Thursday.

In the Saida district, two people were killed overnight in a drone strike on a car on the Msayleh road in the Saida district, and three others were killed in a strike on Adloun.

In the Bekaa, four people — a mother and her children — were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home in Sohmor, an area which has been incessantly attacked for at least two days.

At dawn, an Israeli strike in Tibinin (Bint Jbeil district) killed at least five people, whose conditions were not immediately known. The attack also damaged the villages governmental hospital, shattering windows, tearing doors from their hinges and damaging vehicles nearby.

Israeli strikes intensify in South and Bekaa; building razed in Sour

In southern Lebanon, overnight attacks also targeted Tiri and Deir Antar (Bint Jbeil district), a house in Nabatieh Fawqa, a vacant lot in Arab Salim (Nabatieh), the hills of Mahmoudiyeh (Marjayoun), houses in Shabriha (Sour), a house in Baissariyeh and Ansarieh (Saida). An Israeli strike also hit the Khardali area near a Lebanese Army checkpoint between the Nabatieh and Marjayoun districts. For the first time since the war began, the Israeli army dropped flash grenades over the city of Sour.

In the morning, a drone strike hit a pickup truck while parked by the roadside in Shebaa (Hasbaya district), causing no injuries. Israeli airstrikes also hit the Iqlim al-Touffah region and Nabatieh Fawqa, while three airstrikes targeted Arab Salim (Nabatieh). Israeli bombardment also struck the village and plain of Qleileh south of Sour, as well as Aitit and the Hosh area.

Israeli fighter jets carried out further strikes on Sohmor (West Bekaa), Shebaa (Hasbaya) and Shamaa (Sour), according to our correspondents.

Around noon, footage circulated on social media showing the remains of a 10-story residential building razed by Israeli strikes in Sour. "Israel has razed a 10-story building containing 20 apartments, destroyed a car wash and our local bakery. Heroic rescuers continue to put themselves in danger to save the wounded," Bissan Fakih, Middle East campaign manager for Amnesty International in Beirut, wrote on X.

Also at noon, Israel carried out additional airstrikes in Braasheet, Kfar Dounin (Bint Jbeil), Hanouiyeh, Shehabiyeh, Jebal al-Botm, Seddiqin, Deir Kifa (Sour), Sir al-Gharbieh (Nabatieh), and the Ain al-Jouz area in Shebaa (Hasbaya). Israeli drones also targeted at area near the municipality of Braasheet, as well as the villages of Jwayya and Mahrouna (Sour), with several people reported injured in Mahrouna.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out overnight from Monday to Tuesday in a Syrian refugee camp in the Marj al-Khokh area, along the road linking Marjayoun to Ibl al-Saqi, destroying several tents but causing no casualties. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, though preliminary reports suggested incendiary materials may have been dropped by an Israeli drone.

Bint Jbeil reportedly surrounded; Hezbollah fires on artillery position

As Israel says it has encircled Bint Jbeil, fighting between the Israeli army and Hezbollah has continued in southern Lebanon overnight. The Israeli army said a soldier, Sergeant-Major Ayal Uriel Bianco, 30, a fire truck driver with the 188th Brigade, was killed "in combat," and that three other soldiers were wounded.

Hezbollah rockets targeted Israeli troops south of Khiam, in the Marjayoun district, where fighting has raged for weeks between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli forces. In the western sector south of Sour, Hezbollah said it launched a rocket attack on a “new artillery position” of the Israeli army in Bayyada. On Sunday, artillery fire hit Kharayeb, in the Saida district north of Sour, about 20 km from the border — the first such long-range artillery fire reported in Lebanon.

Hezbollah also said it targeted the Liman barracks in Nahariya and a fire-control command center in Kfar Giladi with exploding drones. Later in the day, the group claimed two further rocket attacks, targeting Misgav Am in northern Israel and a telecommunications station in the Aliqa barracks in the occupied Syrian Golan.
