Gaza water provider halts operations after staffer detained by Hamas

A major Gaza water company that runs desalination plants serving nearly half the enclave’s population has suspended operations after one of its employees was detained by Hamas.

A board member, Youssef Yassin, said the shutdown could affect more than 1 million people, with over 70 water-delivery trucks also stopping work, further straining already devastated infrastructure, Reuters reports.

Yassin said Hamas gave no explanation for Monday night’s arrest. The group has been reasserting control in areas Israel has withdrawn from as negotiations over Gaza’s post-war governance stall.

The protest marks a rare act of dissent against Hamas, which has ruled Gaza since 2007.

If the suspension continues, it risks deepening the territory’s severe water crisis, worsened by two years of war and widespread destruction of pipelines, sanitation systems, and power sources needed to pump groundwater.

Islamic Jihad rejects US-backed UN resolution on Gaza

Islamic Jihad has strongly opposed the U.S.-drafted resolution passed by the U.N. Security Council, saying it allows foreign control over Gaza while reinforcing Israel’s occupation.

The group said: “We reject the American decision… because it constitutes an international trusteeship over the Gaza Strip,” adding that it “separates Gaza from the rest of the Palestinian territories and imposes new realities that contradict our people’s principles,” Middle East Eye reports.

It also stressed that Palestinians retain the right to resist Israeli rule, calling the “weapon of resistance a guarantee of this right.”

The statement adds to growing Palestinian criticism, accusing Washington of using the U.N. to legitimise Israel’s occupation and limit Palestinian self-determination.

In line with the commitment made by Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa, a national commission issued a report in mid-July aiming to clarify the sequence of events surrounding these massacres, which were triggered by clashes between militias loyal to the former Assad regime and security forces of the new Syrian government.

The 14 people appearing in court are accused of being supporters of Assad's regime.

Resolution 2803: Hamas denounces an 'international guardianship mechanism'

Hamas said in a statement that the text, supported by the Palestinian Authority, “does not meet the political and human rights demands” of Palestinians.

“This resolution does not rise to the level of our people's political and humanitarian rights,” Hamas added.

Security Council adopts Resolution 2803, backing Trump’s plan for Gaza

The U.N. Security Council voted last night in favor of Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan, which notably includes the deployment of an international force, under U.S. pressure warning of the risk of a renewed war.

13 members voted in favor of the resolution. The U.S. president hailed it as “one of the most important endorsements in U.N. history.”

After sensitive negotiations, the resolution “endorses” the U.S. president’s plan that has allowed a fragile cease-fire between Israel and Hamas since October 10.

The resolution, seen by AFP, mandates until Dec. 31, 2027 a “Peace Committee”, a transitional governance body pending reform of the Palestinian Authority. This committee is to be chaired by Donald Trump.

The text also authorizes an International Stabilization Force (ISF) tasked with securing the borders with Israel and Egypt, demilitarizing Gaza, disarming “non-state armed groups,” protecting civilians, and training a Palestinian police force.

The composition of this force is not specified.

Unlike earlier drafts, the possibility of a Palestinian state is mentioned: after PA reform, “conditions could finally be in place for a credible path to Palestinian self-determination and statehood,” the text states.
