President Joseph Aoun said Monday that he is “personally” following the developments related to the case of Imam Moussa Sadr, who disappeared in Libya in 1978 along with two companions, journalist Abbas Badreddine and Sheikh Mohammad Yaacoub.

These remarks were made during a meeting with an official committee delegation in charge of the case. The delegation included, notably, the imam’s son and daughter, Sadr al-Din and Maliha Sadr, Judge Hassan Chami, and Deputy Director General of State Security, Brigadier General Mourchid Sleiman.

During the meeting, the committee members presented the latest information on the disappearance of the imam and his companions, including the file recently sent by Libyan authorities to the Lebanese judiciary as part of their investigation. Aoun emphasized that “the missing imam is not just the imam of the Shia community, but the imam of the entire nation,” asserting that he is “personally following all aspects of this case at all levels.”

Detained in Lebanon since 2015 in connection with this case, Hannibal Gadhafi, son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, was released on Nov. 10, after the Libyan government paid bail of $900,000 (80 billion Lebanese pounds).
