BEIRUT — The Palestinian Authority under President Mahmoud Abbas appointed Mohammad al-Assaad as ambassador to Lebanon on Sunday, according to the al-Markaziya news agency.
Assaad was Palestine’s ambassador to Ukraine in 2009 and 2010 and had served as ambassador to Mauritania since April 1, 2021.
Assaad replaces Ambassador Ashraf Dabbour, who was recently dismissed from his post due to differences within Fatah. This situation had previously led to Dabbour’s removal from his position as deputy head of the Lebanese portfolio within the Palestinian movement.
