A protest was held Saturday by several residents of West Bekaa and Rachaya in front of the Litani National Authority’s headquarters near Lake Qaraoun to denounce severe electricity cuts in the region, the state-run National News Agency reported.

During the sit-in, demonstrators condemned the power rationing, at times lasting “up to 18 hours” a day. The Union of Municipalities in the area announced the formation of a committee to follow up on the issue, lamenting that electricity cuts had become “a heavy burden.”

“It’s time for the state to take responsibility and work to provide services that meet the needs of the population, rather than relying on temporary solutions that have proven ineffective,” said Yehya Daher, head of the union. He also thanked the Litani Authority for supporting West Bekaa and Rachaya residents through successive electricity crises.

On Friday, the Litani National Authority announced that a meeting would soon be held with Electricite du Liban (EDL) officials and Energy Minister Joe Saddi, “who does not oppose EDL taking initiatives to ease the suffering of citizens.”
