BEIRUT — Following the ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel, Electricité du Liban (EDL) announced on Saturday in a statement that it has "begun surveying and repairing the damages inflicted on the electricity infrastructure in the affected areas of the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel governorates, in collaboration with contracted companies."
The effort includes drafting a "comprehensive plan for repair and maintenance to fully restore and reconnect the network’s components at both the transmission and distribution levels," EDL stated. The initial phase has focused on reactivating key feeders and essential substations, including Baalbeck, Labweh, Hermel, Bednayel, Marjayoun and Ksara, to ensure the gradual restoration of electrical services across all regions.
On Wednesday, "necessary maneuvers were completed on the high-voltage line supplying the main substations in Hermel and Labweh. As a result, most medium-voltage feeders and all substations — excluding damaged branches and secondary stations — were reconnected today," the statement added.
EDL further reported that "all feeders, including those in West Bekaa, Central Bekaa and the Baalbeck-Hermel governorate, have been reconnected, except for a few feeders still requiring work." These include four feeders in Baalbeck, one in Hermel and one in Rayak, which will require additional repairs in the coming days. "Replacing burnt transformers requires technical inspections by the institution to prepare an inventory of the necessary equipment, which will be secured as soon as possible," the statement highlighted.
Despite the challenging conditions, EDL affirmed that it is "working tirelessly to restore electrical services to all affected areas" and will provide updates on further developments.
