Britain said on Tuesday that its nationals should leave Lebanon and continued to advise against all travel to the country, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said.
"Around 700 U.K. troops will move to Cyprus in the coming hours, as the government continues to prepare its contingency plans following significant escalation between Israel and Lebanon in recent days," the office said in a statement.
In the last two days, Israel has intensified its strikes on Lebanon, carrying out hundreds deadly bombing campaigns. At least 569 people have been killed, almost 2,000 wounded, and tens of thousands displaced. The caretaker Health Minister told a press conference Tuesday afternoon that the vast majority of victims were civilians.
Hezbollah responded by firing around 300 of rockets into northern Israel on Tuesday. The Israeli army said it was the "highest number of missiles fired in one day since start of war."
