Lebanon's caretaker Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib has arrived in Cairo to attend the 162nd session of the Arab League ministerial meeting, according to a statement relayed by our correspondent Hoda Chédid. The high-ranking official is expected to deliver a speech outlining Lebanon's stance on the regional tensions exacerbated by the Gaza war, which has been ongoing since Oct. 7, 2023, and is increasingly affecting southern Lebanon.
The statement also notes that Bou Habib will engage in a series of consultative meetings with his counterparts, other Arab foreign ministers, and invited foreign officials to discuss the current escalation, ways to de-escalate the situation, and the urgent need to end the conflict in Gaza. Additionally, he will participate in discussions on the Syrian crisis, given Lebanon's significant population of Syrian refugees who have arrived since the onset of the conflict in 2011.
