The speaker of the Lebanese parliament, Nabih Berri, has summoned MPs to sessions on Wednesday, Jan. 24, and Thursday, Jan. 25, to vote on the state budget, also known as the finance law, for 2024, the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Friday.
The sessions will begin at 11 a.m. and continue into the evening. Barring any surprises, the first day, as well as part of the second, will be devoted to the presentation of the draft budget. Prepared by the government and submitted to Parliament in September, this draft has been extensively modified by the parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee.
Parliamentarians have until the end of January to vote on the text. If they fail to do so, the government may promulgate the original draft by decree.
