BEIRUT — Security forces arrested a man in Houla, South Lebanon, accused of assaulting his wife and six-year-old daughter, Internal Security Forces (ISF) said in a statement Tuesday.

The man allegedly threatened to kill his wife and daughter using firearms and confined them to the home.

“The information division received information on Aug. 14, 2023, of the man’s actions ... Through investigations conducted by patrols of the Information Branch in the town of Houla, the accuracy of the information regarding the violence was confirmed,” the ISF statement explained.

“One of the branch's patrols executed a raid on the mentioned house, resulting in the arrest of the individual. Upon searching the house, a military rifle and a military pistol were seized,” the statement added.

The 6-year-old girl was examined by a forensic doctor, who confirmed she had been subjected to abuse and physical harm. She displayed signs of torture on her body, and she was transferred for evaluation by a psychiatric doctor.

In her testimony, the wife stated that she and her daughter had been subjected to beating and torture by her husband. She said she didn't report her husband's abuse earlier for fear of retribution.

During the interrogation, the man confessed that he abused, tortured, and threatened the life of his wife and daughter using firearms, according to the ISF statement.

The man was referred, along with the seized items, to the appropriate judicial authority based on the court's order.
