BEIRUT — The head of ex-president Michel Aoun's press office, Roula Nassar, Sunday denied rumors of her employer's death, after reports circulated on social media, some claiming that the founder of the Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) had either died in a Beirut hospital, others that his entire family had gathered at his bedside.

"Any rumor of this kind brings millions of good wishes .... To those who spread rumors, I advise you to stop doing so, for your own good. Michel Aoun is doing very well and is having lunch with his family," Nassar wrote in a Facebook post.

The former president, 89, is the frequent target of such misleading information. Many Lebanese blame him for, among other things, failing to halt the country's financial collapse and to prevent the deadly explosions of August 4, 2020 — since he admitted to knowing about the presence of ammonium nitrate being stored at Beirut port.
