BEIRUT — The Traffic and Vehicles Management Authority said in a statement relayed by the state-run National News Agency Friday, that it will stop receiving appointments for vehicle registrations on the online platform as the Inkript company, responsible for the online platform, is on strike.

“We apologize for stopping receiving citizens' appointments on the platform due to the continuation of the strike by the Inkript company, which is committed to operating the information system, provided that the appointments that were previously booked remain reserved and will be implemented immediately after the start of work," the statement explained.

Earlier in July, the Traffic and Vehicles Management Authority had said in a statement that individuals wishing to register their vehicles at the Vehicle Registration Center in Dekwaneh can book appointments on their website.

After closing for over six months after a corruption probe, some car registration centers in Lebanon reopened in April.

Numerous arrest warrants had been issued as part of a wide-ranging investigation into alleged corruption in vehicle registration centers. Several high-ranking employees are being prosecuted, including Hoda Salloum, the general director of the road traffic department.

Arrests have also been made among employees in Mount Lebanon districts. Officials in those departments, especially in Baabda and Metn who allegedly amassed huge sums through bribes from taxpayers, are currently being prosecuted.
