Marwan Habib, a Lebanese national remanded in custody in the United States as he awaits trial on burglary and sexual assault charges, has had a second case brought against him, this one for assaulting another inmate, lawyer Karim Majbour confirmed to L'Orient-Le Jour.
Majbour has represented women accusing Habib of sexual assault in Lebanon and is following up on the US cases.
In the second case, opened on June 22, Habib will be tried for "battery by an inmate" while incarcerated at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County.
A hearing in this second case is scheduled for July 12, according to the local Florida court website.
In the first case, a new hearing is scheduled for this Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Florida time, after an initial postponement on Wednesday.
The defendant is accused of assaulting a woman in her hotel room in the United States in November 2022.
Habib allegedly broke into the victim's room in Florida, after requesting the key from reception, and attempted to rape her.
Habib has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
In 2019, dozens of women in Lebanon testified to having been sexually harassed by Habib.
The man allegedly harassed them both face-to-face and on social networks. Majbour filed a complaint against Habib as soon as the accusations against him were made public on November 22, 2019. Habib denied the accusations, notably during an appearance on a local TV channel.
