BEIRUT — Lebanon's General Security (GS) announced on Tuesday that all new passports will now be issued within a maximum delay of 30 working days, without the need for an appointment.

"Lebanese wishing to obtain a new travel document will be able to apply without a prior appointment. Passports will be issued within a maximum of 30 working days," GS stated.

GS said it also accepts requests for "urgent passports in regional centers" with a maximum delivery time of 7 working days.

Since Lebanon's economic crisis began in 2019, the demand for passports exploded, creating a shortage of travel documents.

An online platform was created at the start of the crisis to meet the high demand for passports, but the waiting time for an appointment soon reached a year or more. GS decided earlier this year to close the platform and revered to a walk-in system.
