Fire brought under control in a Syrian refugee camp in Anjar, one injured

BEIRUT — A fire of unknown origin broke out on Saturday evening in a informal Syrian refugee settlement in Anjar, in the Bekaa Valley, injuring one person, our correspondent in the area reported. The Civil Defense brought the blaze under control the same evening.

The injured person was treated on site. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

On Feb. 28, a fire in a Syrian refugee settlement in Arsal, Bekaa, killed two people: a mother and her son.

In recent years, there have been several fires in informal refugee camps in Lebanon, where safety standards are generally not respected. The fires are often caused by faulty electrical wiring or the use of stoves for heating during the winter months.
