Renowned journalist and TV host Sonia Beiruti passed away on Monday, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Beiruti worked for several local and regional newspapers and magazines before joining the local TV channel Télé Liban in the 1960s. On the small screen, she presented socio-cultural programs. Beiruti has also published several books including Matahen al-Taifiyya (The battles of confessionalism).
Caretaker Information Minister Ziad Makari paid tribute to the journalist on his Twitter account, "Writer, poet and activist ... she brought color to Lebanese television with her uniqueness and culture." The minister added that Beiruti had also "deeply influenced Radio Lebanon."
A mass for Beiruti will be celebrated on Tuesday in Our Lady of Help church in Haret Sakher, Mount Lebanon.
