The Lebanese Customs Administration announced on Tuesday that it seized roughly 160,000 Captagon pills at Beirut international airport on Monday, according to a statement published by the state-run National News Agency.

Customs said the seizure took place with the cooperation of the airport security services. The pills were reportedly hidden in a "professional" manner. The shipment was bound for Oman, via Doha.

One man was arrested in connection with the pills and an investigation was opened.

Five days ago, the Anti-Narcotics Division of the Lebanese Customs Administration seized roughly one million Captagon pills at the port of Beirut. The Captagon was hidden inside construction equipment bound for Sudan. The intelligence service of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces arrested a Syrian national who allegedly used a false Lebanese identity to complete the shipment's transactions.

Also last week, an alleged attempt to traffic drugs at sea was foiled by the Lebanese Army at Abdeh beach, in Akkar, North Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities have stepped up efforts to combat drug trafficking originating in or traveling through the country, a practice regularly singled out by Gulf countries.
