BEIRUT — Caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi on Wednesday called on the Internal Security Forces and General Security to carry out the “necessary investigations” after a man, believed to be of Saudi origin, allegedly threatened the Saudi Embassy in Lebanon.
Here’s what we know:
• The alleged threats of a “terrorist attack” against the embassy were conveyed through a voice recording that was posted on social media.
• The authorities “are called upon to arrest anyone involved in this case, bring them to justice, and take the necessary measures as quickly as possible,” a statement released by Mawlawi's office read.
• The statement urged General Security to “communicate a list of anyone involved in this affair, who has been in and out of Lebanon.”
• According to information obtained by the ministry, the presumed suspect is named Ali Ben Hashem Ben Salmane el-Hajji, holds Saudi nationality and is wanted by the Saudi authorities for “terrorist crimes.”
