BEIRUT —More than 5 kg of cannabis hidden in a surfboard, headed for a European country, were seized last month by the Internal Security Forces in the Dbayeh area of Metn, the ISF said on Tuesday.

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement, the ISF said that 5.1 kg of cannabis were seized on June 15. The suspected traffickers were arrested the day after, one in the area of Jeita in Kesrouan and the other in Beirut. The suspect arrested in Beirut was in the possession of cocaine, 1.6 kg of cannabis and an automatic weapon, the ISF also said, adding that an investigation was opened under the supervision of the specialized judiciary.

    • Security forces have in recent months touted a number of operations to thwart drug trafficking operations. At the beginning of June, more than thirteen kilos of hashish hidden in a wooden cupboard destined to a European country were seized by the ISF.

    • A roadmap to reestablishing diplomatic ties with the Gulf countries delivered by Kuwaiti officials to Lebanon in January requested that the latter tighten its measures on drug smuggling.
