BEIRUT — President Michel Aoun and Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati will meet Friday morning to discuss the government line-up, submitted to the president Wednesday, a source at Baabda Presidential Palace confirmed to L’Orient Today.

Here’s what we know:

  • The source told L’Orient Today that among the points Aoun and Mikati will discuss is the absence of expected criteria in Mikati’s cabinet proposal. The source did not specify what those criteria are.

  • The proposed cabinet, leaked Wednesday, would renew the terms of most ministers in the current caretaker administration, with the exception of caretaker Energy Minister Walid Fayad, caretaker Finance Minister Youssef Khalil, caretaker Minister for the Displaced Issam Charafeddine and caretaker Economy Minister Amin Salam.

  • According to the leaked list, caretaker Energy Minister Walid Fayad, who belongs to the Orthodox sect and is from Aoun’s share in the former government, has been replaced by oil and gas engineer Walid Sinno.

  • These developments come after the conclusion of two-day non-binding parliamentary consultations that started Monday, in which several parties announced their boycott of the future cabinet, in particular the Lebanese Forces, the Progressive Socialist Party, the Kataeb, opposition MPs and Michel Mouawad’s bloc.
