Polling brisk among expats in Iran and Arab countries

BEIRUT — As of 4 p.m. Friday, more than 11,260 of 31,000 registered Lebanese expats have voted. Polling stations for Lebanese residents of Iran and nine Arab countries, namely Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, opened Friday morning.

Here’s what we know:

  • 36 percent of expats registered to vote in the 10 countries had voted at 4pm.

  • 422 Lebanese have voted in Tehran, 66 percent of registered voters; 3,009 cast their vote in Qatar, 41 percent of those registered; 2,080 have voted in Kuwait, 36 percent; alongside 203 in Jordan, 42 percent; 282 in Bahrain, 44 percent; 570 in Syria, 56 percent; 3,988 in Saudi Arabia, 30 percent; 433 in Oman, 48 percent; 111 in Iraq, 34 percent; 170 in Cairo, 24 percent, the state-run National News Agency reported.
