BEIRUT – The private hospital owners’ syndicate issued a statement Thursday announcing they would delay moving ahead with previously announced measures for National Social Security Fund patients by a week pending General Confederation of Lebanese Workers head Bechara Asmar’s promise to intervene and ensure the payment of monthly advances from the NSSF.

Here’s what we know:

    • The statement read that Asmar “took it upon himself” to ensure the payment of monthly advances from the NSSF to hospitals and that the syndicate would “suspend the decisions taken in regards to [NSSF] patients for one week” to allow him to “arrive at the desired solution as soon as possible.”

    • The measures announced for NSSF patients, which include receiving only NSSF patients in need of critical care and requiring that NSSF patients cover the cost of dialysis and cancer drugs themselves, were announced in a statement from the hospital owners’ syndicate published on Tuesday.
