BEIRUT— The Amal movement denounced on Monday “the government's negligence towards Lebanese” people stranded in Ukraine amid the Russian invasion.
Here's what we know:
• “The Amal movement deplores the government's negligence towards Lebanese and students abroad and the distress they find themselves in inside Ukraine,” the Amal political office said in a statement issued after a meeting. The statement also urged the government to take the necessary measures and make calls to ensure the Lebanese people’s safety.
• An online form has been created for the Lebanese in Ukraine, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced that Lebanese stranded in Ukraine will be allowed to cross the border to Poland. However, families of Lebanese students stuck in Ukraine have said that emergency hotlines set up for Lebanese citizens in the country have gone unanswered.
• Amal also called on its supporters to participate widely in the May parliamentary elections in Lebanon and abroad.
