Tripoli mayor calls on residents not to fire into the air during New Year’s revelry

BEIRUT— Tripoli municipality head Riad Yamak on Friday called on Tripoli residents “not to shoot in the air, not on New Year’s Eve or on any other day,” adding that the municipality was dispatching a car to roam the streets of the city and implore residents not to open fire.

Here’s what we know:

    • “Terrorizing people is not one of the values ​​and morals of Tripoli,” Yamak said in a statement published by the National News Agency.

    • He said that people who opened fire into the night sky should be considered “an enemy of Tripoli and its people,” while calling on residents to reveal the names of their neighbors opening fire.

    • Yamak also said that the “Tripoli municipality had allocated a car for the municipal police, accompanied by a security patrol from the army intelligence equipped with a loudspeaker, to roam the streets and neighborhoods of the city and call on citizens not to shoot” into the air.
