BEIRUT — President Michel Aoun on Thursday discussed “developments in Iran’s nuclear file” in a meeting with Lebanon’s Ambassador to Iran Hassan Abbas, the Lebanese Presidency’s Twitter reports.
Here’s what we know:
• Negotiations are ongoing between the world’s global powers and Iran in Vienna in an effort to restore the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran, which US President Trump pulled out of.
• Analysts have linked the Vienna talks to Lebanese politics, claiming Hezbollah, closely tied to Iran, as a pressure point in negotiations.
•Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz on Wednesday called on Lebanese authorities to "stop Hezbollah’s terrorist hegemony over the structures of the state.”
