BEIRUT — The vehicle registration center in Jounieh, closed since Dec. 21, 2022, is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, according to the Road Traffic and Vehicles Authority.
The center, located in Kesrouan district, will be open from Tuesday to Thursday each week to process applications in ascending order based on the last digit of license plates, starting with "0," and working at a rate determined by the center's capacities, the department statement says.
The following services will be available:
• Vehicle ownership transfer
• Registration of previously inspected vehicles
• Decommissioning
• Recommissioning and registration under a new owner
• Mortgage discharge
• Renewal of expired driving licenses
• Lifting of seizure
• Completion of transactions that were already underway.
Vehicle registration and mechanical inspection centers in Lebanon have faced multiple closures amid the country's ongoing and multi-faceted crises. Many of the closures have been a result of public sector workers going on strike to protest below-poverty wages. A dispute between the Traffic Management Center and Inkript, a company specializing in IT security for governments and financial institutions, has also disrupted the provision of services. The contract between the Lebanese government and Inkript has been suspended several times.
