Deaths in a war that has no name: Civilians killed by Israel in Lebanon

Since Oct. 8, war has become a daily reality for those living south of the Litani river — a cycle of drone strikes, internal displacement, bread shortages, school closures, fear in the air at all times. Then there are the death announcements, for fighters and civilians alike. In the past month, Israeli strikes also targeted areas of Baalbeck and the Bekaa, expanding their reach deep into Lebanese territory and leaving destruction and confusion in their wake.

Since Hezbollah entered the war in support of Gaza, under the “unity of the fronts” within the "Axis of Resistance,” the dead in Lebanon have been counted in dozens. And while it is mainly Hezbollah fighters who have been killed by Israel, bombardments have also taken the lives of more than 50 civilians, journalists reporting from the South and rescue workers who, although often affiliated with partisan organizations, are still considered civilian targets under international law. A policeman and a sergeant in the Lebanese Army are also mentioned among this group of noncombatants, as Lebanon and its troops are not involved in the conflict.

Below, we pay tribute to them and put a name and a face to each of these victims of a war that has no name.
