Saad Hariri underwent heart surgery in Paris

Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, currently retired from political life and living in the United Arab Emirates, underwent a successful heart surgery on Wednesday, his press office confirmed.

The operation, carried out in Paris, was aimed at « replacing a heart valve, a surgery usually performed with an open heart. The procedure had been "scheduled in advance." Saad Hariri, who is 53, will stay "a few days in Paris to rest, before returning to Abu Dhabi" where he resides, the statement added.

In 2019, when he was still prime minister, Hariri had a stent put in place, also in Paris.

Head of the Lebanese government from 2009 to 2011 and again from 2016 to 2020, he announced his retirement from Lebanese politics in January 2022.
