The village of Mukhtara and the Joumblatt family commemorated on Saturday the 47th anniversary of Druze leader Kamal Joumblatt's assassination. He was the founder of the Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) and was murdered on Mar. 16, 1977, near Baaqlin, in the Chouf region.
Walid Joumblatt succeeded his father until last summer, when he passed the torch to his son, Taymour. The former did not attend the commemoration.
Taymour Joumblatt, surrounded by several members of his family and a popular procession, marched through the streets of Mukhtara to the tomb of Kamal Joumblatt where they paid their respects, reported the National News Agency.
"The anniversary of Kamal Joumblatt's martyrdom will remain the symbol of a renewed legacy of struggle, embodying national and Arab causes, particularly the Palestinian cause," said Taymour Joumblatt during the occasion.
Numerous political, religious and security figures took part in the tribute.
