BEIRUT — Kuwait's Court of Cassation has ruled to convict three people on charges of conducting espionage on behalf of Lebanon-based, Iran-backed Hezbollah, Kuwaiti news outlet al-Qabas reported Thursday. According to al-Qabas, the court did not specify what penalty those convicted would incur.

The Court of Cassation stated that the Hezbollah group is prohibited and criminal according to the law. "It is an armed organization planning to overthrow the fundamental systems in Kuwait to establish the Greater Iranian Republic. Moreover, it is an organization that believes in the Iranian revolution and its principles, seeking to propagate them in Kuwait," the court said.

In February 2022, al-Qabas reported that the Kuwaiti Public Prosecutor's Office released, on bail, "three people who had been arrested in connection with a case of support and financing of Hezbollah, considered a terrorist organization by the Gulf monarchies."

In 2021, Kuwaiti authorities arrested eight Kuwaitis accused of financing Hezbollah in Lebanon.
