Health ministry report for southern Lebanon: 177 dead and over 840 injured

On Thursday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health published its latest assessment of the clashes in southern Lebanon between Hezbollah and Israel. Based on hospital data, it counts a total of 843 casualties since Oct. 8, 2023, up to and including Feb. 13, 2024, including 177 deaths and 171 wounded requiring hospitalization.

Of the total number of victims recorded, deaths and injuries, 92 percent were men and 97 percent were Lebanese nationals, with 63 percent aged between 25 and 44. Of the injuries recorded by the Ministry, 44 percent were due to trauma caused by Israeli bombardment, 33 percent to explosions and 18 percent to exposure to chemicals.

According to the ministry's figures, which cite the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a reference, 87,161 people have been displaced from southern Lebanon since Oct. 8 as a result of fighting between Hezbollah and Israel.

These regular figures published by the Ministry of Health are based exclusively on hospital figures, while other data are made public by other sources. According to a count by L'Orient Today on Wednesday, at least 248 people have been killed in Lebanon since Oct. 8, including 36 civilians and 178 Hezbollah fighters.
