Internal Security Forces on Friday warned citizens from taking roads that are prone to flooding in the next two days as heavy rain is expected to fall.

In a statement, the ISF said that during the coming two days "it is expected that heavy rains are going to take place in a short period which would lead to the forming of floods and slippery roads and the gathering of big chunks of water on the roads."

Accordingly, the ISF asked citizens to "avoid taking roads that are flooded or that have large accumulations of water or are near rivers" and to "drive with caution to avoid slipping which could lead to car accidents."

The ISF also asked citizens to call its hotline 112 in case of emergency.

The Civil Defense had also published earlier this week a list of instructions that people should follow during the coming rainy days which include caution when passing under large advertising signs, street lighting installations or high voltage lines, in case of powerful winds.

On the roads, it recommended driving carefully and asked motorists to avoid overtaking other vehicles on narrow roads to avoid skidding and to park to the side if it is impossible to continue on the road. If the car is trapped in snow, Civil Defense asks people not to turn on the heater inside. The driver should also be able to communicate his exact location at any time in the event of a call for help, the Civil Defense said.

On Dec. 23, heavy rains caused major damage and disruption across the country and four Syrian refugee children died in north Lebanon because of the storm amid terribly bad infrastructure that is getting worse every year following the economic collapse that the country has been suffering from since 2019.
