BEIRUT — The Lebanese army announced on Thursday that it prevented 700 Syrians from entering Lebanon and arrested nine Syrians who had infiltrated into Lebanese territory at the Shudra-Akkar checkpoint. 

"Over the past two weeks, attempts by about 700 Syrians to infiltrate were thwarted, and nine Syrians who had infiltrated into Lebanese territory inside a tanker were arrested at the Shudra-Akkar checkpoint, and the tanker driver was arrested," reads the Lebanese army statement.

Lebanon hosts around two million Syrians including 800,000 registered with the United Nations. The Lebanese Army has previously reported intercepting thousands of illegal smuggling attempts.
