BEIRUT — The Episcopal Commission for Catholic Schools in Lebanon announced on Wednesday evening its schools will be closed, while its administration goes on strike starting from Thursday, Dec. 21. The action is in protest against a law approved by Parliament to regulate the functioning of private schools and the establishment of budgets in educational institutions.

As stated in a press released, the Catholic schools' strike will be observed until the law in question, passed on Dec. 15, is reconsidered.

They also denounced "the arbitrary, ill-considered, and impossible-to-implement legislation ... that did not take into account the repercussions on the educational staff and students."
