Shots fired at home and car of former Jamaa Islamiya leader in Tripoli

BEIRUT – Unidentified individuals opened fire on the home and car of a former political leader of the Jamaa Islamiya in the North, A.N., in the Abu Samra district of Tripoli, near al-Zahra Hospital, local and security sources in the area told L'Orient Today.

According to these sources, no one was injured. The causes of the incident remain unknown for the moment. Forensic experts and security forces have arrived on the scene and an investigation has been launched. A search is underway for the gunmen, who fled to an unknown destination.

The Jamaa Islamiya, close to the Muslim Brotherhood, a Sunni confraternity popular in several Arab countries, has been involved via its armed wing, the Dawn Forces, alongside Hezbollah in the fighting on Lebanon's southern border with Israel since Oct. 8, the day after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas.
