BEIRUT — One person was killed after a group of journalists and civilians were "surrounded" by heavy Israeli gunfire Thursday evening near Houla, a Lebanese town next to the southern border, according to an army source and local media.

UNIFIL troops reportedly intervened, evacuating the group from the area, though a spokesperson for the peacekeeping force told L’Orient Today they were "not in a position to comment at the moment. "

A high-ranking source within the Lebanese army confirmed to L’Orient Today that the situation had been "resolved" in coordination with UNIFIL but that one of the individuals trapped in the gunfire had died as a result of the incident.
