BEIRUT — Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced Monday that they arrested 15 Syrian nationals, including four minors, who had crossed the Syrian-Lebanese border at Minieh, North Lebanon.
The operation took place on Sept. 16 after police spotted a suspicious van. The 15 people on board were arrested for illegally entering Lebanese territory and the driver, a Syrian national in his 30s, was also arrested.
Smuggling networks between Lebanon and Syria are numerous. The uncontrolled border and the absence of effective state authority in certain regions allow for smuggling and trafficking of all kinds, from drugs to human beings.
