BEIRUT — The General Directorate of Civil Status announced Friday that electronic individual and family ekhraj eid (extract of civil registry) documents, will be issued starting next Monday. Meanwhile, two mayors told L'Orient Today that this process will start on Sept. 19.  Another mayor told L'Orient Today that people are already benefiting from electronic individual ekhraj eid forms, and that soon, family ekhraj eid forms will also become electronic.

According to one of the mayors contacted by L'Orient Today, the new decision allows people to issue an ekhraj eid without needing to make trips for this purpose especially if they live far away.

The statement attributed to the Directorate General of Civil Status and published by the state-run National News Agency on Friday,  electronic ekhraj eid will be issued using new standards, the most important of which is the QR code. This will allow "anyone concerned to see the validity of the entries."

Moreover, the Directorate General said that "if citizens still have copies of family and individual ekhraj eid issued as of the year 2017, they can renew them in the civil registry by adding the following sentence: There has been no amendment to date."

This announcement comes after the "completion of all preparatory stages for the electronic individual and family ekhraj eid program, including training for employees, updating programs and experimenting on them...".

In 2017, the Directorate General set a plan to "develop its work to facilitate citizens' affairs, by relying on its own human capabilities and getting rid of private companies in order to save money for the State and avoid additional financial burdens."
