BEIRUT — Vehicle registration centers were busy on Tuesday, one day after their reopening following months of closure.
According to our photographer, many people were gathered at the vehicle registration center of Dekwaneh waiting for their turn.
After being closed for more than six months following an investigation into alleged corruption by civil servants, some vehicle registration centers reopened in April with partial resumption of operations. However, they subsequently closed their doors.
Another issue at the root of these closures involves a dispute between the Traffic Management Center and Inkript, a company specialized in IT security for governments and financial institutions. However, a spokeswoman told L'Orient-Le Jour on Monday that the dispute between the Traffic Management Center and Inkript was not the only reason for the registration centers' closure, and the decision to reopen was taken following discussions between the two parties that began last Friday.
