BEIRUT — After a land dispute a Majdal Anjar man stands accused of having shot and killed his brother, an army veteran, and attempting to murder his own wife Saturday, a security source told L’Orient Today’s Bekaa correspondent.

The killing occurred after a dispute over a plot of land that escalated into physical confrontation and an exchange of gunfire.

The suspect allegedly fired upon his brother, a retired soldier, with a military-grade weapon, killing him.

He also shot his wife multiple times, a military source told L’Orient Today, but she is in stable condition.

The killing triggered widespread tension in the town, prompting the intervention of the military and security forces.

Unknown persons threw a hand grenade into the house of the accused, igniting a fire and causing material damages. The military has since imposed strict security measures, including cordoning off the area, and a series of raids were carried out to find the perpetrator.

Earlier in August, a man shot his employer before committing suicide in al-Ruwaisat area of Jdeideh, Metn.

Lebanon's Internal Security Forces announced earlier in the month that Lebanon's reported crime rate had fallen by 38 percent in the first seven months of 2023 compared to the same period last year.
