BEIRUT — To commemorate the third anniversary of the Beirut port explosion, French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday that the Lebanese people "can count on France, on its solidarity and friendship."

The port explosion left over 220 people dead and more than 6,500 injured. The investigation into the tragedy stalled due to political interference.

Several French citizens were among the victims of the explosion.

On Friday, Macron addressed the Lebanese people via Twitter saying, "I am thinking of you. After the Beirut explosion three years ago, I was next to you. I will always remember the dialogue we had."

Earlier on Friday, France's foreign affairs ministry paid tribute to the victims of the explosion by calling for "all possible light" to be shed on the circumstances surrounding the disaster.
