BEIRUT — Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud issued a series of measures on Monday aimed at reducing the risk of fires amid Lebanon's ongoing heatwave.

In a statement, Abboud said that the Beirut Fire Department has been placed on "maximum alert" and is "ready to respond without delay."

He emphasized the importance of keeping water reserves at their maximum levels to enable firefighters to intervene quickly and effectively.

The public sanitation service has also been put on alert, and the governor urged the need to maintain public spaces "clean and clear to avoid any additional risk."

Green spaces, although scarce in the capital, should also be maintained by the appropriate service, particularly by eradicating dry vegetation.

An inventory of locations where dangerous and flammable substances are stored, including gas stations, warehouses, and businesses, must also be conducted, Abboud insisted.

The governor further urged citizens to immediately report any fires.

On July 11, the Ministry of Environment and Civil Defense warned of an increased fire risk in most regions of Lebanon due to high temperatures.
