BEIRUT — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed on Tuesday the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York to file a complaint with the UN's Secretary-General over Israel's annexation of Ghajar, a town on the border between Lebanon and the Syrian Golan Heights.

Over the last weekend, Israel absorbed the Lebanese part of the Alawite village through which the UN Blue Line crosses.  The Israeli army constructed a fence to the north of the village, cutting it off from Lebanon.

This violated Resolution no. 1701 but evoked general indifference.

Ghajar straddles Lebanon and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed on Tuesday the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations in New York to file a complaint with the UN's Secretary-General and the Security Council about the incident. Ghajar extends along the outskirts of the village of Mari and constitutes a flagrant breach, which adds to the continuous Israeli "violations of Lebanese sovereignty and resolution 1701 (2006)," the ministry's statement said.

"The ministry demanded the condemnation of this deliberate violation of Lebanese sovereignty and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories," the statement continued.
