BEIRUT — A man was shot dead and another was injured by an armed man in the area of Bebnine in Akkar, L'Orient-Le Jour's correspondent in the north of Lebanon reported.
The man who was killed was shot multiple times, while the man accompanying him was shot and injured, according to local residents. The deceased was moved to a hospital in Minnieh before passing away. The suspected shooter is still at large and security forces are pursuing him.
The head of the Bebnine municipality commented on the matter in a statement, saying he "condemns and disapproves of the horrible crime." He went on to slam the "failure of the security forces to do their job and keep weapons out of the hands of the criminals."
Violent incidents are not uncommon in Akkar, where the state struggles to enforce its authority.
