Lebanon to celebrate first day of Fitr on two different days

BEIRUT — The first day of Eid al-Fitr will fall on Friday, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian, head Sunni religious cleric, announced on Thursday. Meanwhile, Vice President of the Supreme Shiite Islamic Council, Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, announced that the first day of the holiday will be celebrated on Saturday.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began on March 23 for both the Sunni and Shiite communities in Lebanon and other countries such as Saudi Arabia and Iran.
