BEIRUT — Two people were injured on Wednesday at dawn after unidentified individuals shot at a seaside cafe in Mina, Tripoli, residents in the area told L'Orient Today's correspondent in the north.

Residents said that the shooting injured a woman in her leg and waist and a man in his back. Both were transferred to the Islamic Hospital in Tripoli.

The shooting also caused material damage in the cafe. The incident reportedly happened during Ramadan’s pre-dawn suhoor, as many people go to restaurants and cafes to eat before the sun rises as they are supposed to fast from dawn to sunset.

Residents told L'Orient Today they believed the shooting was related to a previous fight that took place days ago in Mina, in which a man was injured. The dispute was allegedly over private generators.

Tripoli has seen rising violent crime as the state struggles to regulate arms amid an economic crisis.

In February, two people were injured in Beirut as generator owners exchanged gunfire.
