BEIRUT — The Lebanese army on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning detonated two hand grenades found in Tripoli, North Lebanon. No injuries or material damages were reported, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region.

One of the hand grenades was found in al-Gemmayzat Street Tuesday evening. When the army could not transport it safely, a military demolition expert detonated the grenade on the spot after army personnel cordoned off the area, eyewitnesses told L'Orient Today.

A second grenade was found on al-Jadeed Street in Qibbeh Wednesday morning and was also safely detonated by the army.

Investigations are ongoing, according to our correspondent.

Armed security incidents are relatively frequent in Tripoli, Lebanon's poorest city.

The security situation has deteriorated in recent years amid Lebanon's economic crisis, which has plunged more than three-quarters of the population into poverty.

In September, caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced that a "sustainable" security plan had been drawn up for northern Lebanon after two deadly shootings in Tripoli raised fears of a resurgence of violence.
