BEIRUT – A man was injured on Wednesday after the balcony of his house collapsed in Tripoli following a storm that has been rocking Lebanon for the past week, a Red Cross first responder told L'Orient Today's correspondent in the North.
The incident also comes after a massive deadly earthquake early Monday in Turkey and Syria that also shook Lebanon. The quake raised concerns over the structural safety of buildings in Lebanon.
The Red Cross responder told L'Orient Today that the man, who lives in an old house in Tripoli, happened to be on his balcony when it collapsed. He added that the Red Cross took him to a nearby hospital.
A winter storm with hail, rain and strong winds has been riling Lebanon since Sunday night.
Early Monday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook southern Turkey, killing more than 9,500 people in Turkey and nearby parts of Syria, according to the latest count.
The quake was also felt in Lebanon, where frightened residents fled their homes and sought safety in the streets.
Though six Lebanese were confirmed to be killed between Turkey and Syria during the quake, there have been no recorded casualties in Lebanon.
