BEIRUT — Lebanese state-owned telecom operator Ogero announced Friday in a statement that an outage occurred at the Choueifat exchange, south of Beirut, "due to excess voltage on the generator" that powers the infrastructure in the absence of a continuous power supplied by state power provider Electricité du Liban.

"This failure has led to an interruption of our services in Choueifat and its surroundings in Mount Lebanon. We are carrying out the necessary repairs," Ogero said in a statement by the company.

The stoppage of public electricity distribution has also recently led to cuts in running water in several Lebanese regions, including some areas of Beirut, several localities in Metn and the city of Saida in South Lebanon.
